ABA/UCI BMX Race Report
ABA
Gator Nationals Oldsmar, Florida February 20-21
The 3rd round of the 2010 ABA Pro Series was held this past weekend
in Oldsmar, Florida. The Oldsmar track is located just outside of Tampa
and was recently fully redesigned and outfitted with a new Pro Section.
Since stop 3 was a UCI international points event and just a month
before the 1st of the 2010 UCI Supercross race series, it was time
for Pro riders from all over the world to begin their 2010 International
competition, all meeting up at the Oldsmar track. This was a recipe
for one of the biggest gatherings of AA Pro/Elite Men in quite some
time, with over 45 riders on Saturday.
Randy
Stumpfhauser,
the 2009 ABA #1 Pro has already kicked off the 2010 season with some
stellar main event scores,
as well as a win.
Randy thrives at the fully stacked races, and this was no exception.
On Saturday, Stumpdawg easily made his way into the main event. Randy
rode strong as usually and was battling Cristian Becerine for the win,
going into the 2nd turn. Randy went for a move that quickly disappeared
and lost just a bit of his speed, letting 3rd place rider Maris Strombergs
get a slight advantage and make not only the pass on Randy, but on
Cristian as well. Randy would finish up 3rd for the day. On day 2,
Stumpy was once again in the main event and again, rode consistent
finishing up 3rd. Randy’s sponsors include GHP, SINZ, Tangent,
THE Products, Troy Lee Designs, Tioga, and BMXpros.com
Danny
Caluag rode stellar on Saturday with 3 great moto finishes of 2nd
or better. In the ¼ final, as it
is in the Pro class, one small mistake kept him from advancing. Danny
would have to settle for
a 3rd in the Pro Cruiser final for the days overall result. On Sunday,
Danny came back determined to make the stacked Pro Main event. He once
again made it through the motos with great results and backed it up
in the quarterfinal and semi finals to make the super stacked AA Pro
Main event. Danny would wind up 6th for the day, but it was huge to
be in the final.Danny’s
sponsors include Intense BMX, THE Products, Fly, SINZ Racing, Shimano,
Intense Tyre Systems, Skull Candy, OGIO, Thomson,
GO211.com, S & M, Champion Nutrution, Group D Designs, and BMXpros.com
Cristian
Becerine is hands down one of the fastest riders in BMX and in Oldsmar,
he once again proved that. On Saturday,
Cristian was a
standout in the qualifying rounds and going into the main event, was
one of the favorites to win the UCI/ABA Elite Main event. Cristian
had a blistering holeshot and was out front for the entire lap. Randy
Stumpfhauser battled with Cristian the entire lap and when Cristian
felt the pressure from Randy subside just feet before the finish line,
he slowed down just a tad, but unfortunately it was jut a moment too
soon, as his teammate Maris would pass him just at the line, giving
Cristian 2nd for the day. On Day 2, Cristian was once again in the
final, but in his all out start effort, he taped the gate and blew
his start. Cristian wound up 7th for the day. Cristian’s sponsors
include Free Agent, SINZ, THE Products, Kenda, Thomson, UFO, Tioga,
S & M, and BMXpros.com
